Our OWI Program:

• Helps participants estimate their personal level of risk for
  developing alcohol or other drug problems.
• Teaches specific, research-based guidelines.
• Helps participants to develop a specific action plan to avoid
  further problems with alcohol or drugs.

The 12-Hour OWI Course meets the Department of Education and Department of Transportation requirements under Iowa law 321J.2 and 321J.17.

Research-based Course

The 12-Hour OWI Program is based on research. The instructors do not moralize, judge or dictate.
The course provides new information and support in order to assist people in exploring new beliefs and changing behaviors.

Instructors

All of our instructors have been certified by the Prevention Research Institute and are experienced substance abuse professionals.

Fees

All OWI classes in the State of Iowa are required to charge the same amount for the 12-Hour OWI Course. The fee is $115, which includes the student manual. Manuals will be distributed at the first class.

Completion of the Class

In order to meet the Iowa Department of Transportation requirements, participants must be on time and must complete the full 12 hours of class.

At the completion of class, information will be sent electronically to the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT). Normally, it takes the DOT 7-14 days to process this information.

OWI Evaluations

MECCA staff are also able to do complete substance abuse evaluations, as required by the Iowa Department of Transportation. Please call us if you have questions or would like to schedule an evaluation.
